A compliance export is a bulk extraction of message and file records in a structured format that a supervision, archiving or e-discovery system can ingest, rather than one a person is expected to read.

What Compliance export means

Regulated sectors — financial services in particular — are often required to supervise and retain business communications, and they do so with dedicated archiving platforms. Those platforms ingest specific formats, of which Actiance XML and various CSV layouts are the common ones. An export that produces something else, however complete, does not satisfy the requirement.

A compliance export is a different thing from a data export, and conflating them causes a lot of wasted procurement time. A data export answers "can we leave" and needs to be complete and open. A compliance export answers "can we supervise" and needs to be in a named format on a schedule. A vendor can have one and not the other.

The scope limit is the same as everywhere else in an encrypted product: only rooms the server can read can be exported readably. A compliance export over end-to-end encrypted rooms would produce ciphertext, which no archiving platform can supervise.

How Enclessa uses it

Enclessa provides a full organisation data export in open formats today, available at any time — the exit is a button rather than a negotiation. A compliance export in CSV and Actiance XML, run as a batch job, is planned work in phase 5 and is not available today. Enclessa does not describe the two as the same capability.
