Data residency, explained
Residency is a question about location, and it is often confused with two neighbouring questions it does not answer. It is not the same as sovereignty, which asks which legal system can compel access regardless of where the disks are. And it is not the same as the transfer rules of data protection law, which govern whether personal data may leave a territory rather than where it sits.
How Enclessa uses it
Enclessa runs the hosted service in one European Union region, and the seller is a company established in Germany. There is no choice of country within the EU on the standard plans, and Enclessa says so rather than implying a region picker exists. Where a specific country is required, the Enterprise plan buys a dedicated deployment of the same hosted service in a region the customer names, still operated and updated by Enclessa.
